Yes, really, the residents win the prize.  They are Nashville!  And Nashville is on a roll, working itself up to being a top cultural and artistic destination.  A study conducted by Bizjournals.com recently ranked Nashville as 3rd, behind the much larger cities of New York City and San Francisco, for its cultural amenities.  Most people relocating to Nashville real estate and the new residential areas around downtown Nashville know that things are popping.

Since the Tennessee Performing Arts Center debuted in 1981, several major developments midst the prime distinguished homes and neighborhoods in Nashville TN real estate signal a non-stop movement towards accommodating our valuable cultural, historic, and artistic talent.

More recent facilities affecting the ability to sponsor a variety of venues are adding up.  In 2006, the Nashville Symphony moved into its new $123.5 million home at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center.  Wow!  The Nashville Children’s Theatre unveiled a $5.7 million expansion at the end of 2007.  Another wow!  Two thousand eight will unveil the new $6 million home for the Nashville Opera.  Wow.

Besides facilities, programs are important.  Add spectacular museums such as the Music Museum and galleries, performing arts companies, and historical sites.  The area’s abundance of Civil-War-related sites and historical grounds such as The Hermitage, the Parthenon, and Belle Meade Plantation all counted in our favor.

Now, just looking at the “fun” factor, we ranked 29th.  That was an assessment of a broader category of features.  It included the number and concentration of entertainment-related businesses including retail stores, restaurants, legal gambling, and recreation centers—along with the cultural facilities.   The city held its own during the study that rates America’s cities for the “fun” factor—despite a lower ranking in categories such as food and drink, popular entertainment such as movie theaters, spectator sports, amusement parks, and high impact sports held at recreational sports facilities.

Competing with the larger cities, ours came in a surprising 7th for shopping amenities!  And we are just getting started with our renaissance in that area.  The newer multi-use developments around downtown such as The Gulch are adding even more interesting retail shopping districts.  Watch how new lifestyle centers like the Hill Center in Green Hills and The Avenue in Murfreesboro will turn shopping into recreation and relaxation.

Leave it to a creative bunch of residents, Old Man Time, and a spectacular momentum presently in gestation and congratulate the community for a job well done.
